Help build commUNITY
Kindness Acceptance Inclusion
Unity Day: Wednesday, October 18
Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center as a signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month, continues to grow every year as a representation of the desire to prevent bullying and unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Celebrated on the third Wednesday of October, the goal of Unity Day is to wear and share orange to represent our promise as youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members to help build a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
The Kindness Challenge
From October 1 through October 18, all students will be encouraged to participate in the Unit Seven School’s Kindness Challenge. The challenge will promote acts of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion throughout our homes, schools, and community. The challenges do not have to be completed on the specific day they are posted; simply cross out the acts as they’re completed throughout the 18 days, and turn them into your teacher by October 19. The class with the greatest participation at each school will win a cupcake party. A bonus activity is included that encourages families to donate a new pair of youth or adult socks to help those without addresses. These donations can be placed in the box at the front foyer of each school, or at the Unity Day event at UHS on October 18.
Wear & Share Orange
Unity Day is celebrated in October, and orange is a color commonly identified with the month. It is also a color that is associated with safety and visibility. It is warm and inviting, and its vibrancy makes an impactful statement. Orange shirts are available for purchase online through Krossing Korner boutique at Unity Day Shirt Order Form . Click on the box at the top left of the image to indicate sizes and quantities. Orders will be collected through Thursday, October 5; distribution information will be provided at a later time.
1-Mile Fun Run & Family Fair
Please join us on October 18 from 4-6pm near the Unity High School softball field to celebrate Unity Day. The 1-Mile Fun Run, hosted by the UJHS Cross Country team, will begin at 4:00. Orange gatorade will be provided to all participants. Games and activities will be set up for friends and family to come together in a kind, accepting, and inclusive environment where all are welcome. Sidney Dairy Barn’s Moo Mobile will be available for purchase. If you’d like to donate to the Fun Run & Family Fair, please sign up at: Unity Day Donation Sign Up.
More than a Day
While the event is just one day, it serves as a catalyst for our entire commUNITY to come together with a visual statement that our words and actions matter. Today, and every day, we stand against bullying and commit to kindness, acceptance, and inclusion of all.
