East Update
3rd Quarter, 20-21 School Year
This year the Unit 7 Board of Education adopted a remote eLearning plan to be used when snow, inclement weather, or other unplanned emergencies cause Unit 7 schools to close. When a remote/eLearning day occurs, all students will have activities to continue learning at home.
Elementary teachers have prepared paper-based activities that will be distributed to students and/or families. Look for communication from your child’s teacher about arrangements for these “snow day” packets. Remote/eLearning days are considered school days and assigned activities are required for students to complete and turn in.
Events
2nd Quarter report cards will be sent home after the winter break on Friday, January 8.
Unity East is holding our second annual Read-a-thon to encourage students to read and to raise support for student and family events at school. For two weeks in January, students will participate in special reading sessions with their class and we will be encouraging everyone to do additional reading at home. Information about the program and fundraiser will be sent home ahead of our start date on January 15. Consider setting a reading goal for your student or having family reading time as part of this event!
Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 25, from 3:00-9:30pm. Conferences will be held virtually, either online or by phone. Sign-up links will be emailed and posted on the East website the first week of February.
Spring Pictures are scheduled for Thursday, March 11. Additional information and picture packets will be sent home closer to the date.
Students in grades 3-5 will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness the week of April 19. We ask that appointments and absences for students be limited as much as possible this week.
Reminders
Please send your student with an extra mask in their backpack. The office has a limited supply of extra masks to hand out at this time.
All students have a yellow COVID-19 Self-Certification Card. Parents/guardians must initial the yellow card every morning before sending or bringing their child to school or putting them onto a bus, certifying that their child does NOT have a fever and is symptom free.
